Easy Hamburger Steak and Homemade Potatoes

What you’ll need:

for the steak and gravy:
1 and 1/2 pounds ground beef (I like using ground chuck)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon ground mustard
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 (10.5-ounce) can French onion condensed soup (undiluted)
1 (.87-ounce) packet brown gravy mix
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

for the homemade potatoes
4 pounds potatoes (russet or Yukon gold)
1/2 cup melted salted butter
1 cup milk
3/4 cup heavy cream
salt & black pepper to taste

How to make Easy Hamburger Steak and Homemade Potatoes :

for the steak and gravy:

  1. Crumble the ground beef into a large bowl and sprinkle with the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and ground mustard. Mix well. Divide the mixture into 4 equal amounts (or more if you want smaller steaks) and form them into patties.

  2. Place a skillet (cast iron works great) over medium-high heat. Once the pan is hot, place the steak patties in the skillet and allow them to cook without touching them for about 4 minutes. Flip them over and cook them for an additional 4 minutes. (You want a nice dark brown color on them) Remove the steaks from the pan and allow them to rest on plate or paper towels.

  3. Slice the white onion. Remove some grease if you have too much. Put the pan back on the heat and add the sliced onions. Cook until just translucent (about 3 minutes). Add the undiluted onion soup, gravy mix, and water to the onions and stir well. Bring to boil, reduce the heat to a simmer, and stir in the Worcestershire sauce. Add the hamburger steaks back to the pan and cook until they are done to your liking. Need to be 155-160 degrees on the inside.

    for the homemade potatoes:

    1. Peel and quarter potatoes, place in a pot of cold salted water. Bring to a boil, cook uncovered 15 minutes or until fork-tender. Drain well. Stir in heavy cream.

      2. Add butter to the potatoes and begin mashing. Pour in heated milk a little at a time while using a potato masher or hand held mixer to reach desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper. Serve hot!

We added some veggies and crescent rolls to accompany the main course and they were delish! Didn’t even need a knife to cut, so tender and such an easy comfort meal!!

    Enjoy!
